Framing the Narrative: An Analysis of Strategic Communication Techniques Employed by Blessed Pilipinas TV to Promote the Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) Agenda
by Dr. Mae Cherry Anne Moriones Doromal
Research Overview
This dissertation analyzes the strategic communication techniques used by Blessed Pilipinas TV (BPTV) to promote the Bagong Pilipinas agenda in the Philippines. The study focuses on how media framing, storytelling, and value-based messaging are used to shape public perception, build national identity, and support government initiatives in a politically polarized media environment.
The research uses qualitative content analysis of selected episodes of Blessed Pilipinas TV, examining how the program frames key policy areas such as economic recovery, education, infrastructure development, social transformation, and poverty alleviation. The study finds that the program relies heavily on positive framing, human-interest storytelling, emotional appeals, expert interviews, and repetitive slogans to promote the Bagong Pilipinas vision and strengthen public trust and engagement.
The findings show that while these communication strategies are effective in promoting unity, national identity, and public support for government programs, the program often presents success-focused narratives while minimizing criticism or opposing viewpoints, which may create bias and limit balanced public discourse.
The study concludes that Blessed Pilipinas TV demonstrates how media can function as a nation-building tool by shaping narratives, influencing public opinion, and promoting government agendas through strategic communication and framing techniques. However, it also emphasizes the importance of balanced storytelling, inclusion of diverse voices, and ethical media practices to maintain credibility and democratic communication.
Overall, the research contributes to the fields of strategic communication, political communication, media studies, and nation-building by providing insights into how media framing and communication strategies influence public perception, governance communication, and national identity formation.
